There are six blocks of work (please see the course description for more
details):
- "I" introduction and Circuits (5 lects, 2 tuts),
- "D" dc machines and solid-state drives, (6 lects, 2 tuts),
- "T" transformers (6 lects, 2 tuts),
- "M" three-phase machines (8 lects, 3 tuts).
- "P" professional practice and ind system design. (4 lects, 1 tut),
- "S" single-phase motors (6 lects, 2 tuts) and
It is generally advisable to follow the sequence shown as the skills
and knowledge base build step-by-step. The rotating machines concepts
are introduced in the dc machines notes and are assumed to be understood
in the ac machines notes. The transformer notes assume that the ac circuits
notes have been understood and form the basis of material covered in
the ac machines notes. The industrial system design can be covered
before or after single-phase motors, but requires understanding of
ac circuits, transformers, and three-phase machines.
You may wish to buy or borrow the recommended course text book - to
complement and supplement these notes. You may also consider reading
some of the other books listed as different books cover different topics
in more or less detail than others - and with different wording. I have
developed my "instructor's notes" over many years as an aid for student
learning. The text book is more complete (than my notes) in some areas
and less so in others.
