HELP to use the "frames" version of Bob Alden's World In General Web Page Links

This set of web pages is intended to be a source of web sites for both novice and advanced web "surfers".

Your browser window is divided into three parts (called frames):

  • The top frame contains the title and a convenient way to return to my home page at any time.

  • The right frame is the largest one and displays the links you can click on to explore any of the linked web sites. This frame is now being used to display this HELP page.

Every time you click on a link in the right frame (and the link is active), the other frames disapear so you are useing the full browser window. If you find a link that no longer works - and send me an e-mail message - I will try to fix it (replace or delete). The scroll bar at the right hand side allows you to browse down (or up) the frame to see more links. The list of links to be viewed is quite long so I have split the original long single file into several shorter ones. The longer file took longer to load - on some networks/systems this delay can be annoying.

  • The left frame contains groups of catagories of links which are collated into more general sections such as "Travel Services", each in a pop up box. Click on one of the boxes to display the group headings. Click on one of these group headings to jump to the right frame which now contains the category of links you have selected.
  • NOTE. If you are comparing the source code with the description in my June '97 column in THE INSTITUTE, you should know that I have made several changes; in July 97 (1) for some files their .html extensions are replaced by .htm and (2) the file originally named wigc.html is replaced by several files - e.g. wigc_t.htm, wigc_c.htm, etc.; in May 1999 (3) I replaced the long list in the left frame by pop-up boxes to avoid scrolling
